Key Points at a Glance – Karen Bass Compares Spencer Pratt to Trump
- LA Mayor Karen Bass compared Spencer Pratt to President Trump during a Saturday Instagram livestream, calling Pratt a “failed reality TV star who wants to be famous.”
- Bass, Pratt, and Nithya Raman are in a statistical three-way tie heading into Tuesday’s June 2 primary.
- A UC Berkeley-LA Times poll has Bass at 26%, Raman at 25%, and Pratt at 22%, all within the margin of error.
- A separate internal poll shows Bass leading Pratt by just 2.3 points, within the margin of error.
- Bass’s unfavorability rating stands at 51.2%, compared to just 25.7% for Pratt.
- Trump said of Pratt “I’d like to see him do well” but Pratt rebuffed the connection, saying “I’m running for a local position.”
Three candidates. Two runoff spots. One Tuesday. Los Angeles has never had a mayoral race quite like this.
“You have a failed reality TV star who wants to be famous,” Bass said during a Saturday Instagram livestream while speaking with two actresses. She then appeared to reference President Donald Trump. “We know what it means if you put somebody who is a reality TV star in a seat of power.”
The Polls Say Anything Is Possible
A UC Berkeley-LA Times poll of likely voters has the three top candidates almost within the margin of error. Bass sits at 26%, Raman at 25%, and Pratt at 22%. Ten percent of voters are still undecided.
Another internal poll shows Bass leading Pratt by just 2.3 points, within the margin of error. Among undecided voters, Bass has a negative net favorability of 30%, while Pratt’s is just 12.9%, showing he has more room to grow.
Pratt Pushes Back on the Trump Link
When pressed on a potential Trump endorsement, Pratt told NBC Nightly News: “This right here, what you’re doing, you having this conversation is what’s destroyed local elections.” Trump had said of Pratt: “I’d like to see him do well. He’s a character. I heard he’s a big MAGA person.”
The Wildfire Legacy Still Hangs Over the Race
Pratt, who lost his home in the Palisades Fire, has repeatedly attacked Bass’ leadership, framing the disaster as a failure of preparedness and response. Bass has defended her record and, following the 2025 Palisades Fire, removed Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, a decision she said was in the interests of public safety.
Tuesday could send LA into a Bass vs. Pratt general election showdown or a Bass vs. Raman progressive battle. Either outcome would be historic. And right now, the math says anyone could make the runoff.
