Key Points at a Glance – Trump Demands Impeachment of Sen. Jack Reed Over Iran Deal

It was Trump’s 80th birthday. He was watching Fox News Sunday. And he was not happy with what he was hearing from Rhode Island’s senior senator.

Sen. Jack Reed mocked President Trump’s prediction that a peace deal with Iran will be reached on Sunday. “For 100 days we’ve been hearing constantly, ‘there’s going to be a deal, there’s going to be a deal,'” Reed said. “I think the precipitating issue today, the president wants to give himself a birthday present and we have paid for it with hundreds of billions of dollars.”

The Obama Comparison That Triggered Trump

Sen. Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the US would be receiving “less” under a proposed deal with Iran than it got from the Islamic Republic via the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was the deal the Obama administration negotiated to curb Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump’s Truth Social Explosion

Trump fired back on Truth Social: “Senator Jack Reed, a Dumocrat from R.I., lied when stating the Deal we just made is not as good as the Obama disaster known as the JCPOA. Reed is either an outright fraud, or incompetent. The Obuma Deal was a road to a Nuclear weapon for Iran, cash and all, one of the worst and dumbest Deals ever made by the US. Our Deal is a WALL against Iran ever having a Nuclear weapon, the complete opposite of Obuma. Impeach Jack Reed!”

Reed’s Cool Response

Reed replied to reporters Monday: “The president does not like to be questioned in any way, shape or form, which is bad for an executive. Executives, the good ones, listen to criticism and then rationally dispose of or concur with it. That was just a tirade by someone who was upset. And I think he was upset because there was a lot of truth in my statement. We don’t have a deal yet. We have a deal to make a deal.”
