Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond entered the race with a strong fundraising base and name recognition from his 2022 AG win, where he received 73.8 percent of votes. “As Governor, I will keep standing strong with President Trump to secure the border, deport illegal immigrants, and stop the flow of drugs and crime into Oklahoma,” Drummond said at his campaign launch.
Ryan Walters in the Mix
Controversial former State Superintendent Ryan Walters, who was impeached from office in 2025, also appeared in the gubernatorial primary field, though most analysts expected him to significantly underperform given his political baggage from the legislative removal.
Kevin Hern and the Senate Seat
The Senate seat was vacated when Sen. Markwayne Mullin became Homeland Security secretary in March. Trump endorsed Rep. Kevin Hern for the open Senate seat, making it one of the most watched Oklahoma Senate races in years. Hern enters the race with strong name recognition from his Tulsa-area congressional district and solid Trump backing entering Tuesday’s voting.

Oklahoma is a deeply red state. Incumbent Governor Kevin Stitt won re-election by a 13.6 percent margin in 2022. Democrats have not won any statewide race since 2006.
